With eight rounds complete the Retro Series presented by the DMLC Racing Channel sets its sights on Sonoma Raceway. Featuring 12 turns and multiple elevation changes Sonoma Raceway has everything needed to test the driver’s abilities and produce some fantastic racing.
Last season saw Sage Karam dominate the event setting the qualifying and race lap records en route to a victory over Alex Saunders by 8.736 seconds. Heading into the Round 9 event Karam sits just 9 points back from defending series champion Ryan Otis. Reports from the paddock suggest that Karam may be unable to attend the event which would give Otis an opportunity should he finish well to further stretch the points lead over Karam. Newcomer to the series Mike Rasimas continues to impress having reached the podium twice during Lionheart’s “Month of June” at Indy. The NY driver scored 3rd place finishes at the Indy GP and Indy 250. With the talent that Rasimas has shown so far there is no doubt that he will be contending for wins before the season is complete. Matt Taylor new to Lionheart will be making his Retro Series debut at Sonoma. Taylor has shown a lot of pace on the road courses but admittedly is still working on perfecting his craft on ovals. Taylor will also be competing in the upcoming HyperX Summer Series featuring the Ford GTE. With the continuing tradition of adding strong drivers it will be interesting to see how the competition shakes up with another road ringer in the field. Sonoma Raceway will also be the last road course the series will see for several weeks as the Retro Series will shift its focus back to oval racing with a visit to 5 unique ovals. With the unpredictability of oval racing this really puts additional pressure for drivers to score points at Sonoma. The HyperX Grand Prix of Sonoma will take place on Thursday, July 30th 2020. Live race coverage will be streamed on the iRacing eSports network courtesy of the Global Sim Racing Channel.
