The last time the Lionheart IndyCar Series presented by First Medical Equipment raced at Chicagoland Speedway was in 2017 during the league’s 5th season. To put this in perspective this was Adam Blocker’s first season in Lionheart and just his 9th start. Two championships later Blocker is making his 72nd start at Chicagoland. Most notably the last time Lionheart raced at the speedway the series was still using the Dallara DW-12. It will definitely be a new experience at Chicagoland for most of the drivers in the series. The modern IR-18 is definitely a “different” car in many ways, the addition of the in-car adjustments certainly bringing another dimension to the racing this season. Conversations from the virtual paddock are indicating that tire wear will become significant towards the end of the stint, so expect to see those drivers who adequately manage their tires making their way towards the front. The last time the series raced at Chicagoland it produced a series high 24 lead changes and the fewest cautions since Season 2 with just 4 yellow flags breaking the action for 15 laps. Dan Geren won the last event at the speedway leaving Joe Hassert as the only active driver able to become a two-time winner. Hassert led 7 laps in 2017 before settling for a disappointing 18th place finish. This week the series will welcome 4 new drivers to the series. Chris Fowler, Aaron Morgan, Matt Taylor and Mike Rasimas. All have been making a name for themselves in the Retro Series presented by the DMLC Racing Channel and have shown the pace and dedication that it takes to compete on Lionheart’s biggest stage. The series welcomes them the league’s biggest stage as they look to make their mark in 2020 and solidify their place on the roster for the 2021 Season. The championship battle continues to remain close as Sage Karam leads Adam Blocker by 53 points. Kinsella and Harrington also remain within striking distance and all 3 could take over the points lead once the checkered flag flies at Chicagoland. Alkentech Simulation NHR e-Sports continues to lead the Team Championship sponsored by HyperX. Adrenaline Motorsports Red sits 81 points back. Could they be the team that finally ends Adrenaline’s Team Championship streak?
