road america preview

This week Lionheart hits Road America. Located in Elkhart, Wisconsin, this 4+ mile course is the longest and fastest on the schedule, with quick corners and long straightaways, drivers will be challenged while trying to catch their breath when they can. 20 laps for 81 miles is the scheduled distance.

At the conclusion of this race, the season will be 50% complete, so lets look at the championship picture.

Last year's champion, Jesse Vincent holds a comfortable 53 point lead over Matt Kingsbury. Jesse has won at both road courses this season, and has posted the fastest time of the week with a 1.47.93. Will he score win number 3 and number 4 overall to extend his lead?

Matt has also shown promising speed this week clocking a 1.48.93 good enough for 3rd on the speed charts. Can Matt take down the road king and inch closer to Jesse?

Ray Kingsbury sits 3rd. Ray has shown promise on the roads this season and looks to close his 11 point gap to Matt.

Big Joe is in 4th but has not shown much speed this week. Can he find it on Wednesday, or will he slip further from the top?

Trevor Malone rounds out the top 5 and looks to contend as well. He sits 18 back from Joe and 101 from the lead.

The other contender posting a sub 1.48 time is Austin Espitee. He posted the 2nd fastest time of the week of 1.48.69. Austin has had a yo-yo season so far with 4 starts, he's collected 2 runner ups, and 2 DNF's. Can he start a new trend this week, or is he only 2nd best once again?

This race will not be televised but will be available to watch when qualifying starts at 9:45 Central, green flag flies at 9:55 on March 18.
