Trevor Malone leads 49 laps in Round 15 of the Lionheart IndyCar Series presented by Overdrive Graphics and Sim Posters on Wednesday night to take the win at Pocono Raceway.
Unlike the previous week, the drivers made it to lap two before the first incident, which was caused when Justin Laxton hit the bumps on the bottom of turn one and drifted up in to Dan Geren. Geren then bounced off the wall and collected Jorge Anzaldo, last week’s winner Anthony Lurcock, and Korey Connor, ending the night for all but Laxton. The second caution came out on lap 8, for an accident involving Jason Robarge. The third caution of the night came out on lap 16 when the #11 car of Joe Hassert pushed wide out of turn three, and bounced off the outside wall before spinning and hitting the inside wall. The race resumed the green, and on lap 28, the cars of Krysta Nelson and Pete Edwins collided without bringing out the fourth caution, which would wave just five laps later for an accident with Jason Robarge and Pierre Daigle. On lap 41, Jack Bogan pushed high in turn three, bounced off the wall and collected Justin Laxton, ending Laxton’s night and marking Laxton’s third incident of the race. Just one lap later, Michael Gray and Jake Wright collided, bringing out the fifth and final caution of the race. Trevor Malone and Jesse Vincent combined for an Alabama 1-2 finish with the 888 car of Michael Gray finishing third. Chris Lanini and John Downing rounded out the top 5. Alfred Shepperd finished 6th, Vincent Bluthenthal finished 7th, Robert Blouin 8th, Jack Bogan 9th, and Pierre Daigle finished 10th. Qualifying held immediately prior to the race saw Trevor Malone capture the pole with series newcomer Jake Wright starting second. Justin Laxton and Dan Geren started third and fourth, with Ian Adams rounding out the top 5. With the second place finish by Vincent, he stretched his lead over Joe Hassert to 134 points. Trevor Malone moved up one position to third, dropping Justin Laxton back to fourth. It was another tough week for drivers mentioned in the race preview, with everyone but Trevor Malone being involved in at least one incident. The series will return next week on May 27th from Gateway Motorsports Park for 120 laps around the one mile oval.
